Usage
AquaNamix is used to remove nitrates from drinking water. Nitrates are a frequent problem, especially in well water, into which they leak from surrounding fields fertilized with industrial fertilizers, cesspits, septic tanks, or organic waste.
The health hazard of nitrates (NO3–) lies in the possibility of their bacterial reduction in human intestinal tract to nitrite (NO2–), which is toxic to humans. Nitrites react with blood hemoglobin and convert it to methemoglobin that is not able to transfer oxygen which can lead to suffocation.
Infants are most at risk because they have fetal hemoglobin in the blood, which is more responsive to nitrite.
Function
AquaNamix works on the principle of ion exchange, when a special mixture binds the NO3– anions. Harmless chloride (Cl-) anions are released instead.
After the capacity is exhausted, the mixture is automatically regenerated with brine. The treatment plant includes a bypass, which can regulate the amount of nitrate, to comply with the 50 mg/l NO3– standard, while not exceeding limits for chloride.
The nitrate, chloride and sulphate concentration in water must be known for the correct design of the treatment plant (sulphates are also captured on the ion exchange mixture, reducing its capacity, so adjustment of the regeneration frequency is necessary).
Installation
AquaNamix can be connected by means of a bypass fitting to the main water supply line into an object or to a device. The outlet of wastewater that flows out of the filter during the regeneration is introduced into sewerage.
The final step is to set the control valve accordig to your needs.
